Need to restore notes and Collections- Books on MacBook Pro

Somehow the deck got shuffled in Books. It appears that all the books are there. But I lost all my notes/highlights/bookmarks. And all the Collections are gone.

How can I restore what's lost?

This may correlate to changing my Apple password earlier in the day.

My latest backup (external hdd) was yesterday.
