iTunes stuck in preparing to sync windows 11

When I connect my iPhone to my Windows computer, open iTunes, and attempt to sync my music downloads, iTunes does not get past “preparing to sync.” This recently happened after I updated to the latest iOS 17.2.1

Yes, but you would need to switch to the non-MS-store version. Occasionally the internal structure of the .itl database gets changed such that an older build won't read the newer database. If that happens you also need to restore a prior copy of the library from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash - Apple Community for details.

You can use Windows Task Manager to terminate MDCrashReportTool.exe which should allow the sync in progress to continue. Another user suggested renaming this file as a workaround, but that isn't possible if you are using the Microsoft Store version of iTunes. You might also choose to roll back to the previous build of iTunes. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - Apple Community if required. Download links for recent builds are at the very bottom of the page.
