A battery charger for iMac mouse/keyboard/trackpad does not light up when I insert a battery/batteries; could the 3A fuse be bad?A

A few years back I bought 2 sets of battery charger inclusief batteries. Now most of the batteries can be recharged on only one of the chargers. How do I know that the other charger is broken?

iMac, OS X 10.11

Also worth a check on the fuse if it has one. The photos seem to show a device which uses Apple's standard "duckhead" adaptors for the wall socket. The one shown looks like the 3-pin one we use here in UK, and at least the current version has a 3A fuse which is user-replaceable. See the photo of one of my adaptors (below), I opened the fuse holder simply to make it easy to see. Just use a small screwdriver or similar tool in the notch at either end of the fuse cover to prise it open. The fuse is a standard type, and if that (UK 3-pin) is the regular plug style where you live that should be readily available from local supply.

That charger says it is specifically for NiMH (Nickel-Metal-Hydride) batteries. So first make sure you only use it with NiMH batteries and not AA Lithium cells, Alkaline cells, or any other non-rechargeable batteries.

Also, make sure that the contacts are completely clean; use a contact cleaning tool or emery paper if you see any corrosion on the contacts.

Beyond that, the charger is probably defective.

Plenty are available on eBay. Not sure what shipping is, but not any user serviceable parts inside. Occasionally the detachable plug would go bad and needs to be replace. Might be cheaper just to get modern charger and batteries. NiMH batteries are hade to find in the US and are not as reliable as current lithium rechargeable batteries. Any AA battery will work, you might just want to use alkaline for cost savings. I worked for Apple when this was a current product. It was discontinued when the keyboards and mouse’s became rechargeable with internal batteries.
