Corrupted(?) ipod shuffle 4th generation

I have a 4th gen ipod shuffle that was getting stuck in the "restore" cycle in Finder. I tried restarting computer, changing cords and ports etc.

Troubleshooted for several hours and then tried Disk Utility "Erase" (Set Volume: MS-DOS FAT).... however ended up with this error message: "Securely erasing data to prevent recovery failed. (-69759)".

Now the computer will not recognize the shuffle at all- have looked for it in Terminal, Finder, Activity Log and Disk Utility. Any last ditch ideas on recovering this ipod?

iPod shuffle 3rd generation (A1271) not detected in macOS Sonoma \My iPod shuffle 3rd generation (model A1271) is not recognized in Finder/Music app. I've tried and it works fine on the same Mac running Ventura/Monterey or on my Windows computer. Other old iPod (nano 5G) is detected without issues.
