My Mac Air just stops displaying to its own screen, probably 2-3 times a week. It usually happens when I walk away from the desk, so I'm guessing it might be triggered by some kind of sleep mode. The external display works fine though, and I've now configured it as my main display just so I can reboot cleanly from this situation. I can't get the native display back except by rebooting. Any thoughts?

Try and boot the mac in the safe mode to see if the issues persist. If they don’t persist in the safe mode they’re caused by an external piece of software, then you want to evaluate the software installed to your mac

I'm not sure how to really leverage it though because the problem only happens every few days, so even if I went into safe mode for several days (which seems unrealistic - I'm pretty dependent on my computer), the lack of it happening isn't necessarily meaningful.
