New Macbook air cannot print with Epson Workforce 3640. constantly defaulting to "Pause"

Still able to air print from my iMac and also able to air print from my iphone.

I have deleted and reinstalled the driver on my macbook air and done all the things that the forums have suggested.

Funnily enough I am able to print from my macbook air to another printer (canon) at my girlfriends house but continue to have the same issue with my own printer.

Please can you come up with some helpful suggestions.

OK ... I had this issue this morning ... I could print from my iPhone and iPad and my wife's Windows PC, but not my Mac.

After a few hours uninstalling and reinstalling the Epson WF-4630 Printer Driver on my Mac using OS Sonoma 14.5, I called Epson. Rinse and repeat to no avail but I was passed on to another level of support and have fixed my issue of "permanent pause". This may, or may not help you, but this is what they had me do:

  1. Print a Newtwork Status page from the printer itself to find the IP address if you do not know it.
  2. Open the printer web page: 192.168.0.xy (xy is the last 2 digits of that IP address)
  3. Open System Settings
  4. Open Date and Time
  5. Select Date and Time
  6. Check to be sure all are correct (my year and time were not) and correct any errors
  7. Select “Retrieve Information” to check
  8. Then click OK
  9. Go to Network Security Settings
  10. Click on SSL/TLS and select Certificate
  11. 3rd row down under Self-signed Certificate select Update
  12. Click Next
  13. When finished check to see that you can print … I could from both my Mac Mini M2 Pro and my MacBook Air M3

Fixed! I hope this helps at least some of you out there!

Hey there!

If you’ve tried all possible solutions and you still can’t print to your printer, reset the printing system. This process deletes all printers from your list of printers, deletes information about all completed print jobs, and deletes all printer presets: Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem - Apple Support.

Then, add it back to your list of printers using Printers & Scanners settings: Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac - Apple Support.

The Epson WF-3640 is an Apple AirPrint-enabled device. No drivers are required to use it.

Uninstall whatever drivers you may have installed, and add that printer again to Printers & Scanners. You must explicitly specify AirPrint.

While you are at it, you might as well reset your wireless router or access point. Power it down, wait an arbitrary minute or so, power it up again, wait, test.

Hi Bengowrie

I've got the same problem trying to use my MacBook Pro running Sonoma with my Epson WorkForce 3640 but tried all the thing you have and still getting any print job put on "Pause" - have you found a solution yet?

I'm sick of having to access a document from iCloud on my iPhone, then print it to the WF-3640!

Any help from anyone would be much appreciated!
