"Unable to verify update" when trying to update my iPhone to iOS 17

Can you post a screenshot of the whole screen, it could reveal why you aren't able to update.

Make sure you:

• Are using a WiFi connection (not a hotspot).

• You have an active cell signal (You need both WiFi and cellular service to perform the upgrade).

• Are not using a VPN connection.

• Have your battery charged at least 50%. Better yet, keep it plugged in during the update.

• Do not have power save mode turned on.

• Do not have a beta version installed.

• You have at least 10 gigs of storage available.

Try removing any added VPN apps, deleting the update (Settings > General > iPhone Storage > [might need Show All here]), restarting the iPhone, and then re-checking for the update?

If you're trying to use an update earlier than iOS 17.3.1, delete the existing download, restart, and try again and you should get iOS 17.3.1. To delete the download, use Settings > General > iPhone Storage, scroll down and find the problematic iOS update, and delete it.

If you have an add-on VPN client, remove it, restart, and try the update again. Some of these seemingly don’t shut off quite right.

If there is a not-current update stuck in Settings > General > iPhone Storage > [might need Show All here] delete it and re-download.

I heard you need to have the latest update to get iOS 17.4.1 I can’t update to iOS 17 because it wont show up on software updates.

With no Mac and no PC, make an appointment and bring the iPhone into an Apple Store and ask them to update it.

More generally: Settings > General > Software Update

iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone SE 2nd gen, or later iPhone models, can get to iOS 17. Currently, that’s 17.5.1.

iPhone 8 and iPhone X and earlier cannot.

Which iPhone? And if you are encountering an issue or error with the update, what is it?
