"Unable to verify update" when trying to update my iPhone to iOS 17

I’ve been using iOS 16.6 for a while now and have been trying to update to iOS 17. But, when I try to install it says “unable to verify update”! I’ve tried to hard reset, uninstall, etc (expect reset network settings), but it won’t work. I don’t have a Mac/iTunes right now & a USB cord.

I heard you need to have the latest update to get iOS 17. I can’t update to iOS 16.7 because it wont show up on software updates.

Can you post a screenshot of the whole screen, it could reveal why you aren't able to update.

Make sure you:

• Are using a WiFi connection (not a hotspot).

• You have an active cell signal (You need both WiFi and cellular service to perform the upgrade).

• Are not using a VPN connection.

• Have your battery charged at least 50%. Better yet, keep it plugged in during the update.

• Do not have power save mode turned on.

• Do not have a beta version installed.

• You have at least 10 gigs of storage available.

Restart the iPhone: Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

If that fails, connect to Wi-Fi, delete the download, delete any add-on VPN client apps and delete any add-on security apps, re-download the update, and try the update again.

To delete: Settings > General > iPhone Storage > scroll down and find the iOS update, and delete it.

To re-download: Settings > General > Software Update to re-download the update, this while connected to Wi-Fi

Remove any add-on VPN apps, restart your iPhone, connect to Wi-Fi, and try the update again.

If that fails, delete the existing download, restart, and try the update again.

To delete the download, use Settings > General > iPhone Storage, scroll down and find the problematic iOS update, and delete it.

Remove any add-on security apps, and remove any add-on VPN client apps, force-restart the iPhone, and try again.

If there’s an existing download, remove that. (Settings > General > iPhone Storage)

Here are some common problems:

If that doesn’t resolve this, follow these instructions, and use a Mac or PC:

With no Mac and no PC, make an appointment and bring the iPhone into an Apple Store and ask them to update it.

Here is how to: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

And here is what to do: If your iPhone or iPad won't update - Apple Support

More generally: Settings > General > Software Update

iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone SE 2nd gen, or later iPhone models, can get to iOS 17. Currently, that’s 17.5.1.

iPhone 8 and iPhone X and earlier cannot.

Which iPhone? And if you are encountering an issue or error with the update, what is it?
