Updating payment method on a Mac

I have a Visacard details on my Mac that I use for payments using the Mac. I have the same credit card on my iPhone that I use when going out shopping. The credit card recently expired and I updated the expiry date and CCV number on my iPhone without a problem.

But I received an email from Apple saying the details of the credit card on the Mac are expired. I have deleted that card details on the Mac but now when I try to add the new details of the Visacard, or the details of an Amex card, I get an error message that the details can't be added and I need to contact support.....

I have double checked that all numbers are correct - thoughts?
