iCloud deletes online photos when you unregister from iCloud Photo's on windows

I had to remove iCloud Photos so that Microsoft OneDrive would sync:

We can't back up your Pictures folder in OneDrive, because it contains another cloud storage. Please turn off the cloud service syncing in this folder and try again.

When I unregistered from iCloud Photos the warning dialog box appears saying:

Turn off iCloud Photos

If you turn off Photos, all photos and videos stored in iCloud will be deleted from this PC.

All your photos and videos will still be available on other devices using iCloud.

I selected "Delete from PC" moved the directory and re-enabled iCloud Photos in another directory.

I then started getting "Recovery Notifications" about all of my photo's being deleted.  I then check online and about 800 of my most recent photos had been deleted.
