Mass merging duplicate photos in Photos

I've found a way!!

  1. From the left hand list chose 'duplicates'
  2. Command + A to select all.
  3. Merge 5,300 duplicates or similar appears top right of screen.

That certainly merges all the pictures Photos calls duplicates! But while most duplicates are exact, many are similar. Most of those just differ by filename or resolution, maybe, but some just look a lot alike, like this:


I want to keep both of those, even though Photos thinks they are duplicates. I'd hesitate to have the machine decide to automatically erase 5000 pictures that it chose! Of course, if you're sure, then select all and delete always works.
