User Folder's Gb does not Match enclosed folders Gb

Hi,

I am trying to manage the amount of Data on my 500Gb ssd on my Mac Powerbook M1. (Monterey)

My User folder's info tells me it amounts to 305 Gb.

When I add up the data of the Folders Inside my User folder it adds up to only 166Gb.

My q is: what is taking up 139 Gb inside my User folder that doesn't show.

I live by the assumption that the sum of enclosed folders should equal the amount of the enclosing folder.

Is there something I am not understanding right?

Thanks for your feedback and Happy New Year
