OS X 10.11.5 (El Capitan) to install on Parallels Desktop 19.

Hello,

I'm looking to download the operating system file for OS X 10.11.5 (El Capitan) to install on my MacBook Pro (M3) using Parallels Desktop 19.

How can I proceed with this?

  1. only arm based windows install supported by parallels is windows 11 and if one can find a developer iso then windows 10 for arm

2 it's not the hard drive which is your problem here it is that the arm based m3 cpu can't decipher the binaries of the x86 based macOS of el capitan

your best bet is to get an older mac for that purpose only or an older windows box for said purpose

or setup a wmware server and install windows versions you wish there and access it that using a wmware client on the mac m3 computer.

No. You can only run the Arm version of Windows 10/11 on an Apple silicon Mac.

Option 2: Consider 'partitioning' the hard drive, effectively creating separate partitions to utilize the older operating system.

No. As already explained, you cannot run El Capitan on an Apple silicon Mac.

Any other suggestions?

Yes. Acquire an older Mac that can run El Capitan.

Dear Apple Support,

I hope this message finds you well. I am currently using a MacBook Pro running macOS 14.1 (Sonoma) for my work requirements. However, a crucial tool I rely on, namely Quicktime 7 with its "command + E" feature, is essential in my daily workflow. This feature enables me to efficiently copy image names from video files to still images, saving me significant time as I transfer hundreds of images weekly.

Regrettably, this tool is not available in newer versions of Quicktime. To address this issue, I am exploring the possibility of installing macOS El Capitan (10.11.5) via Parallels Desktop 19 in order to use Quicktime 7.

Could you kindly provide guidance or assistance on acquiring a copy of OS El Capitan for this purpose? Additionally, I would appreciate any advice or recommendations regarding the installation process and compatibility considerations when running OS El Capitan through Parallels Desktop 19.

I greatly value your assistance in this matter, as this tool significantly impacts my productivity. Your guidance in enabling me to continue using Quicktime 7 within a virtual environment would be immensely helpful for my work.

Thank you for your time and support.

Warm regards, Joel

Ok, do you know if there's an alternative method to enable Quicktime 7 on my MacBook Pro (M3) since I rely on a crucial tool ('command + E') that's only available in Quicktime 7 for my work?

If OS X 10.11.5 (El Capitan) isn't compatible with Parallels Desktop, are there any other options I could explore?

Are there any potential alternatives?

Thank you for clarity!

Okay, so can I install an older operating system, OS X 10.11.5 (El Capitan), on an iMac 2020 (OS X 11.6 Big Sur) using Parallels?

The iMac has an Intel processor.

If it works with Parallels Desktop 19, where can I download the OS X 10.11.5 (El Capitan) file?

Sorry for my repetitive questions, I'm new here on the Apple forum :)
