Apple Heath has different step count then Apple Fitness App for today.

Health App says 14,758

Fitness App says 4,448

I configured my iphone to take priority over my Apple Watch.

I did this because i have a treadmill desk and my watch doesn't detect the steps (since wrists don't move).

But, I don't understand why this would make the two apps display different step counts. It has been my assumption that the Fitness app was more of a different view of the Apple Health dataset. If it was that Apple Fitness was displaying just my watch data and Apple health was displaying both then the numbers would potentially make some sense...

Health app Daily View ^^

Health app Weekly View (so you can that "today" is January 2nd)

Here's the fitness app:

(Notice it's also for January 2nd)

Here's how my priority is configured.

BlizPhone14 is my primary phone. Not sure why it lists
