Factory resetting a disabled iPhone

So my friend gave me her old iPhone XR. She doesn’t remember her passcode for the XR and it’s already been disabled from her trying to get into it. Our problem is that we can’t seem to figure out how to factory reset the disabled XR.. we have tried connecting it to iTunes on a computer, and that didn’t work because the XR has iOS 17.2.1 and (fun little fact I learned in this process) iTunes will not sync with any iPhone that has an update newer than iOS 17.1.1🫠 she has also tried erasing the phone from her iCloud account on both her phone AND a MacBook. Can anyone please help me with what I can do???
