I read through them . . . after I posted the question.. . . sorry. So if I set up my cellular watch with a phone that is on a network that supports both, and I don't have my iPhone within bluetooth or wifi range, are those features also unavailable? My point of buying a cellular watch was to not have to carry the iPhone when I am out on my property, but it appears from what I am finding out, even cellular watches are not fully functional without contact with an iPhone. Not sure I see the point of going with a cellular watch, even though that's what I did. Should have researched more I guess. Thanks for your help.
If your iPhone cellular carrier supports the Apple Watch, and you extend your iPhone plan to share your phone number with your Apple Watch for about $10 U.S. per month added to your iPhone bill, then the Apple Watch is fully functional whether near or away from your iPhone.
The degraded comments were if you want/need to use the Apple Watch Family Plan, and your Apple Watch has a separate number and is not paired to your iPhone, but rather just being remote managed by your iPhone, as if the Apple Watch belonged to a dependent child.
For an adult, the best way to use an Apple Watch, is to pair it to their iPhone and if they want cellular access away from their iPhone, to use an iPhone carrier that supports the Apple Watch, then extend the plan to include sharing the iPhone’s number with the Apple Watch.
