IPad Calibrate Screen pops up…

I have an iPad Mini 4 with the most up to date iPadOS 15.8 that it will take. This screen just started popping up tonight and I can’t just cancel it. I have to close out then reopen app and it will pop up again. It happens while I’m on the Wayfair shopping app. Any suggestions on what to do?

iPad mini 4, iPadOS 15

My System Services, Compass Calibration has been off and I can’t get rid of my problem with both Wayfair and Zillow.

Are you using an iPad case that contains magnets of any kind? For example, a case with a screen cover that operates the auto-lock function? If so, this can seriously affect the calibration of the iPad fluxgate compass.

If used extensively indoors, the compass can lose its calibration. As an example, one model of iPad Pro that I regularly use for testing often loses compass calibration - sometimes presenting a reading as much as 90° from true.

Recalibration of the compass can help. Rather than list the steps here, this external link might be helpful with the procedure to recalibrate the iPad compass:

In addition to the information within the link, you may find that several full rotations of the iPad in each of its three axis’ (X, Y and Z) will help with recalibration.

You can also prompt recalibration the compass by moving the device in an exaggerated figure-eight motion while in a horizontal plane.

Have you tried to do a force restart of the iPad? This can fix a lot of software glitches that are happening much like rebooting a computer when it has a small glitch. The iPad Mini 4 does have a home button so you can force restart it using this method:

Press and hold both the Home Button and the Sleep/Wake button until you see the Apple Logo. If you see a screen pop up with a slider “Slide to Power Off” just ignore this and continue to hold both buttons. Once you see the device power off, continue to hold until you see the Apple Logo. Once you see the Apple Logo you can release both buttons and allow the device to boot as normal. Once it has come back up it will be ready to go and you have successfully restarted it. Check things again and see if this has corrected your issue. If it is happening with just one app, then I would suggest force closing the App (double click the home button and slide the app off the screen) and avoid it for a little while and make sure that it isn’t still popping up this window.

If this corrects the issue and you haven’t run the app for a while, then I would try it again, if the window pops up again, then avoid using the app and get in touch with the app developer and let them know what issue you are seeing so they can use that to troubleshoot and correct the issue.

I've just been 2+ hours on the phone with apple support. This is an emerging issue and my call was escalated. Nothing worked. The hack actually prevented me from fully powering off the phone. It prevented a forced update via connection to the computer. The supervisor had me use up & down volume & power buttons to get my iPad 4 mini to power off. I always pressed the home button & power button to power off. Any way we tried so many things including turning the location services off as suggested in an earlier post. However, even though Apple has an update to address this, my iPad OS is 15. My ipad4 mini is too old and can't get the newer OS updates. The only solution for me is to delete the Walmart app from my ipad4 mini. No sweat. Going to Walmart.com and signing into my account on my iPad4 works with no issues. I hope this helps.

This how I resolved my problem on my apple 4 mini pad: go on the Walmart app & press BOTH your volume buttons & your power button, until you get the slide pop up screen, slide, then, press power button again , apple logo will appear, let it do its thing until your home page appears. Then delete Walmart app and reinstall. I have no more calibration wheel. Hope this helps you.

““Is this a "planned obsolescence" trigger?””

My question, also. Several people seem to think it’s only happening on Walmart app but then I see other apps named. My persistent little popup-headache isn’t picky. It pops right up on my HOME hen randomly throughout the day on different apps,,geeeze ,,, Apple, please say something about this issue. It held my tablet hostage today until I rotated 10 turns!
