iMovie won't play music audio, even audio that isn't DRM-protected

For some reason, iMovie (iOS) won't play music audio. I import the audio by adding it via the plus icon, etc. but it won't play in the background. When I add it to the foreground instead, it shows a very short (<0.4 second) audio clip that is also silent. It won't allow me to drag to extend it at all, and I can't move it either. The songs are downloaded from iCloud so iCloud isn't a problem. They are also not DRM-protected. Does anyone have a fix to this issue?
