Emptying Trash Can on my iMac with macOS Sonoma.

Hello all,

this strange folder appears over and over again after emptying the trash. I tried to find out what happened but there's no trash can for iCloud Drive existing, so I did start investigating with all I got but found no solution. (Terminal, Automator, Emptying and such)

I hope y'all got a solution for this. I'm despairing.

Does it remain in there when emptying the trash after starting up in Safe Mode and the Mac is connected to WiFi?

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Are there any files in the folder that are in use by another application?

Is the folder empty?

Can you download the folder by clicking the iCloud link, then trashing?

Do you have the option to Put Back when right clicking on the folder?

Does the folder appear when signing into the iCloud website and viewing files? And can you delete it from there?

I suggest 2 things on your Mac.

  • Go to  > System Settings > General > Login Items. Are there apps in the "Allow in Background" section that is related to Overdrive/Techno.
  • Use EtreCheck and post the report here using the Additional Text option. This is a free program developed by a fellow user here and provides a snapshot of what gets loaded on startup without provided any personal details.

Using EtreCheck - Apple Community

If you have an iPhone/iPad with the same Apple ID, check at Settings > General > Background App Refresh, and see if there are any Overdrive/Techno apps there.

What are the name of the folders and have you tried to delete after a Safe Boot?

You can expect problems caused by these files:

  • CleanMyMac
  • SpyBuster
  • Avast Antivirus
  • Sophos
  • Cloak

These belong to the group of software that is not recommended to be installed. You can search for CleanMyMac (and others) by clicking the Search tab on the top of the screen for the many issues other users have experienced. In order to successfully resolve the issue, it is best to eliminate all software that is known to cause problems. Here is a list of the group of software that are not recommended:

  • Cleaners
  • Optimizers
  • Anti-Virus
  • VPN - Unless used for the specific purpose to "tunnel" into a work environment for remote management. There is also an exceptions if used in a country that restricts access to outside networks. It is not a security solution and if used for that purpose, you should delete it.

Once those files are removed, it will be much easier to track down any other conflicts or permissions that are preventing the folders from being deleted. It is likely some files have been migrated over from previous OS versions and no longer work correctly.

You have sophos, avast... plus more stuff from the makers of cleanmymac: "spybuster";

you have little snitch; plus something by the name of "cloakproxyd"...

You seem to have installed bits and pieces of any putative "security" software available.

Of all those, the only one worthy of consideration is malwarebytes, and even this should not be running permanently in the background, but only run manually from time to time, if need be.

Hi. Thanx a lot for ur prompt response. The iCloud Web idea didn't come to my mind so I tried it first. The folder is completely empty there's just two more folders in it and these are empty too. I was able to recover the folder via the website but when I put it back into the trash and try to empty it, the same **** happens again. So I gotta be trying the first option in Safe Mode I guess. This is the last option I haven't already tried.

As u can see, it's now in my iCloud Drive.
