apple tv watch progress not syncing across devices
notes: I own multiple devices that are impacted.

so last night I was...lets say taking care of a basic necessity, and decided to pick up where I'd left off watching stargate sg-1 on my phone(s1 ep 1 children of the gods for the curious among you).
instead of finding my 45-55 minutes in progress on my phone(a 14 plus) I find instead its treating it as a new play through.
now I'm aware apple music does this by design, but apple tv, previous experience tells me that it shouldn't do this.
so, I check on my backup phone(a 3rd gen se) and found the same result. new playthrough of the episode.
thinking 'ok, maybe its ios, lets check ipad' as its its own os at this point, I found the same result.
next I moved to my apple tv box, not expecting any different given 3 other devices are exhibiting the same symptoms.
by this point I've been on the phone with apple support and already have a senior advisor helping me, and informed him, the list of devices now exhibiting an inability to sync watch progress includes two phones, an ipad and apple tv box.
for funsies I go into the bedroom and fire up my amazon fire stick 4k as its got the apple tv app installed, and to our mutual shock, its showing the furthest along watch progress for everything, including s1e1 of stargate sg1, and my last watchthrough of willy wonka and the chocolate factory, which rules out possible content issues.
so he checks his resources and finds out that this is actually a known issue, and has been since...are you all sitting? can you guess? yep! ios 17's launch.
the list of devices impacted includes iphones, ipads, and apple tv boxes and itunes(app or desktop program).
so, for those of you who are wondering why your watch progress isn't syncing, breath easy, its not you, you dont have a suspect device, its something in the os and or the app(note, apple doesn't yet understand the cause, so an eta on a fix is unavailable).
