quicktime won't playback videos

Hi- when I record a video using quicktime I am unable to use quicktime to playback the video. It's there and I can move it into imovie and it plays fine. But when I click on play nothing happens in quicktime.

I'm using a 2021 14 inch macbookpro running Sonoma 14.2.1

mov files created in screenshot toolbar app will not play in Quicktime player This started happening recently on my 2022 Mac Studio. I regularly use the screenshot toolbar app to capture video and audio of what's happening on my desktop. Screenshot creates a .mov which I normally don't have any issues playing. Now, for some reason, when I open the screenshot created .mov file, it will open but will not play, it's frozen right at the start. Interestingly I can still use my mac's "preview" app and the video will play without issue. Also, it will play the same .mov’s video and audio in VLC. I am suspecting this a codec issue. The .mov files created by screenshot are using H.264 for video compression and MPEG-4 AAC, 44100 Hz for the audio which both seem quite normal to me.

Missing Quicktime Plug-Ins Hi, I've been trying to edit videos in iMovie but have been having issues with the audio. Any time I try to play the clip in the editor it stalls and I have to force quit because iMovie stops responding. If I delete the audio from the clip it plays fine. I've tried: 1) saving the library to a new place by holding down option at the open; 2) deleting all the iMovie settings by holding down command/option at the open; 3) I redownloaded iMovie; 4) I tried converting the videos into a different format by exporting them; 5) I updated all software and apps. Nothing has worked. I believe it is a Quicktime issue. All of the Quicktime plugins seem to be missing. There's no folder under /Library/Quicktime or ~/Library/Quicktime and the folder ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins shows up but there's nothing in it. I regularly delete files to maintain the memory storage on my iMac so it could be they got trashed in one of those deletions. I'm wondering if there is a simple way to restore these plugins or if anyone has ideas if the iMovie issue could be something else. Thanks!

Agreed - Sonoma was a bad choice - I relied on QT for my work - I now use VLC, and Final Video Player so I can at least have 2 videos open at once. Big pain - hoping someone reinvents a QT replacement that will allow easy edits and multiple files open. Good luck!

When I installed Sonoma on my Mac, Quicktime stopped working. Nothing plays. I abhor Sonoma, everything broke and i can't seem to undo it. Now I'm going app by app trying to find a fix.
