Trade-in Iphone12 - unable to restore factory settings

Have an Iphone 12 I am trading in. But screen went completely black after one day of large color blobs took over screen gradually. phone powers up; I am able to turn flashlight on/off. but I was unable to restore to factory settings before screen completely died. Any recourse? I do not intend to trade-in without removing my data.

iPhone 12, iOS 17

As it stands now, Apple will not allow any credit for the phone if you "trade it in".

Unfortunately, you won't be able to remove the data on the phone until it is operating correctly again, so your first step would be to make an appointment at the Apple Store or take the phone to an authorized Apple service shop to see what would be involved in getting the phone working again.
