Safari does not keep Mac screen awake when playing a movie on Max.com, why?

Safari does not keep the screen awake when playing a movie on Max.com on the M1 MacBook Air running Sonoma 14.2.1. However, playing Netflix on Safari keeps the screen awake as expected. Playing Max on the Chrome browser keeps the screen awake as expected.

What's going on? Why is this happening selectively, what setting do I need to adjust?
