"Unlock Apple ID" Notification on MacBook Pro

Hi, I constantly get this message on my MacBook Pro:

Unlock Apple ID

Use this Mac to unlock your Apple

ID account.

It has a "Show" button on it. When I click that, the message is dismissed, and it brings up the Systems Settings app, with no further actions suggested. When I go into the "Apple ID" section of the Settings app, everything looks normal and fine - I am signed in to the Apple ID, and nothing looks amiss. What am I supposed to be doing? This message keeps popping up every time I unlock my Mac. Is there a way to make it go away?

Figured this out this evening with support. Any notification will supposedly return over and over if you don't "X" out that notification. Don't ask me why this only seems to apply to certain notifications. So don't click on the "Show" button, click the "X" in the top left hand of the notification window. Seems to have worked.

I have this issue too. I've chatted with Apple Support and they seem to have the impression that it's malware.

They had me install MalwareBytes which detected "Open Any File.app" as malware. I've seen that this has been classified as a false positive. But anyway, quarantining that did nothing, I still get the notification.

They had me check my Notifications settings in Safari but the only websites are Apple ones and non pop-ups are allowed. It appears when in Safe Boot mode too. They tell me I should upgrade to Sonoma… but I can't because I have some software that requires a paid upgrade to work in macOS 14. Oh, and I changed my Apple ID password twice, once from my computer (after which I got an email saying that my Apple ID password has been reset. Guess what, I still got the message! I changed it again from my iPhone. Guess what? Still happening. This is only happening on my MacBook Pro, no other devices.

I went and reset the Notifications on all the applications listed in the Notifications Preferences. It didn't disappear by removing any of these. So it's not from one of the applications I have installed.

I've been told to contact a senior Apple Support advisor tomorrow.

I will let you know if I solve this.

Update again:" so right after resetting the PW I noticed a message on my iPhone telling me that "Device Added to Your Account - An Apple Watch now has access to iMessage and FaceTime. If you don't recognise this device, you can remove it in Settings."

So it must be something to do with permissions across associated devices and confusion caused by introducing a new device in the space of an old one not removed properly ... I'm guessing.

I am having the same issue. Not only every time I unlock it, but it also comes up every 15 minutes or so while in use. It is very Annoying. When I click on the prompt my only option is "Show". When I click on "Show" my options is to click on "Cancel" or "Reset Password". If I press "Cancel" the prompt goes away but will come up again in 15 minutes or so. I do not want to reset my password again, because I did that about a week ago on my iPhone.

So Apple is doing a deep dive into gathered configuration reports from my MBP. I show have the follow up in a few days.

there is also another possibility that some of my Apple iCloud email aliases are Apple IDs themselves. A sort of nested Apple ID situation. I don’t think so. But just passing it along in case any of you have the issue especially if you’ve a bunch of verified accounts to you Apple ID.

I’ll let you know as soon as I find a solution.

The email is inscribed on my AirPods case.

Anyway, it happened again, but eventually sometime last week it went away.

I also finally upgraded to Sonoma, so we'll see if that helps.

But yes, a Badge of Honour indeed. I remember when and where I got my address. I was at my work and got in right away with our T1 connection.

(I actually signed up for multiple accounts.)

I have this issue too. It pops up after the Mac awakes from sleep and every time I open the System Preferences. I am suspicious that it is some how connected with my having ti reinstall my iOS onto a new phone from a iCloud backup (my old iPhone died) and when it came to entering my iCloud PW it seemed initially to have some difficult recognising the PW but on attempt three it accepted it ... then wish stuff starts happening. It does suggest using the Mac to unlock Apple ID and then to reset the PW. So maybe just a security recommendation thing ... in case of Apple IDs being hijacked onto new devices where old devices are NOT properly deactivated (lost, stolen or died) ?
