I have a brand new iPhone 15 pro max and I can’t seem to record my own personal voicemail greeting? What are the specific steps for this model of iPhone

See the following Apple Support article for information on setting up voicemail greeting. They apply to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Set up your voicemail on iPhone - Apple Support

If you've already setup voicemail (and may have a standard greeting for example) and want to record a greeting, open the Phone app, tap Voicemail a the bottom right of the screen, tap Greeting at the top right of the screen

The only thing that I can think of that is missing from that is to tap Record. I already have a greeting that I don't want to mess with so I don't want to go into the process to view and describe every step, but it's straightforward and if you can repeat it if needed to get it right.

The visual voicemail settings will not hold a custom recording even after tapping the Save button. As soon as the Save button is tapped it will automatically revert back to the default recording. Tapping play in the Custom view plays the factory default message again. Either the phone is defective, which I doubt, or the software is corrupted. However, going into audio voicemail settings works and the custom recording can be saved. The inconvenience of having to place the phone up to the ear makes it clumsy to do because there is no choice in the Call mode of voicemail to select a speaker option. It seems to be an obsolete way to have to do a custom recording but was the only method I was able to discover that worked. The device engineers should take a look at this and come up with something better or provide some reasoning as to why it was designed this way, so as not to confuse everyone.
