Umbrella column title over two or more columns

Pretty easy.

1. Unselect "Wrap text in cell" in the Format > Text menu.
2. Make sure that the all the adjacent cells are empty.
3. Type your long or large text title into the center cell.
4. Select Align Text to Center in the Format > Text menu.

The text should overhang on both ends (if long enough), and the inside cell borders in the overhung cells will be eliminated.

Another way is to select cells and merge them via Table > Merge Cells.

But Jerry wisely avoided recommending that as it can sometimes lead to unexplained problems with calculation and sort.

If your table is for display only and you are not doing calculations then Merge Cells might give you a better appearance with less effort. Use that sparingly though, and wherever possible instead just turn off 'Wrap text in cell' and leave the cell to the right blank. In most cases you can get the same appearance.
