Why do I see "Hello World" in iPhone?

Some kind of Easter egg in iOS, is it intentional or left in by the developers?

I saw a Easter egg on iOS 17.1.1 on the Batteries widget, If you drag a photo or a album, artist or a song from Apple Music or Spotify, or a reminder or a webpage and drag it into the Batteries widget and tap it, you will come across a blank “app” which says “Hello World”.

Does someone know the backstory to this, or if this is intentional or accidentally left in by someone?

No, neither intentionally nor accidentally. They've implemented a new Application in iOS16 named "Batteries", the UI does nothing but open a new window with a string "Hello World".

This App can be opened either the way you mentioned, or using the "Open Apps" command via the Shortcuts App.

Also, the string has been removed (instead of removing this App) in iOS 17.2 or 17.3, now it's just a blank UI App, they might've been cooking something interesting, like battery utility or used as a built-in diagnostics App for Genius Bar, stay tuned.

This does not happen on my iPhone 12 Pro ioS 17.2.1. Probably your device is Jailbroken.
