You will need to check with tax authorities of the countries involved. Apple charges whatever taxes are required and does not aid in tax refunds. You may also incur import taxes and check the warranty terms of the countries involved. For some devices, the warranty is only valid in the country of purchase.

Maybe things are different for Macs than for iPhones, but for iPhones, I see people keep saying that warranties are country/region-specific.

That is because this paragraph is part of the legal terms, included in the mfr's warranty as well as Applecare:

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD, APPLE TV AND HOMEPOD SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and HomePod to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

In the US, Apple does not furnish tax receipts regardless of the method of purchase. I am not familiar with other countries' laws. And you are correct: why ask other worldwide end users; you need to research the specific countries' tax laws.

Hi Romahaa, did you buy the MacBook Pro?

I was looking to purchase a MacBook Pro with English keyboard, then claim the VAT back on my flight out of the country.

I did a bit of research, seems like the English keyboard version requires a 2 week wait and need to order/pay online. Can't find out if the Apple Store would complete the VAT refund paperwork at the point of collection.

Just wondered if you had any success, or did you not go through with the purchase?

I don't know about how the VAT stuff works, but it sounds like you are setting yourself up for not having warranty service available in your home country, should the machine have a hardware problem.
