Roaming charges

We are in Central America and usually used only WhatsApp to communicate. Our cells are on airplane mode with cellular data off and roaming off.

Now I have been receiving FaceTime calls. Is FaceTime like WhatsApp which should not cost us roaming charges with Rogers?

When utilizing WhatsApp or FaceTime without WiFi, both applications will rely on your mobile data connection. Consequently, if you're not connected to WiFi and are using mobile data instead, roaming charges for data may apply to both WhatsApp and FaceTime. It's essential to be mindful of this to avoid unexpected charges while using these communication platforms outside your usual network coverage.

What Are Roaming Charges? These are 3 types...

When you roam, you operate as a guest of a foreign provider's network and pay a premium to access their services. Here's a closer look at how roaming charges break down:*

  • Data roaming charges apply when you use your data to browse the internet, use apps on your phone, and/or stream music and videos (charged per megabyte or gigabyte).
  • Text roaming charges apply when you send or receive text messages (charged per message).
  • Call roaming charges apply when you make or receive phone calls (charged per minute plus a connection fee).
