Unable to add previously used card to ApplePay after change of region

Hi Community

I added a VISA card to Apple Pay while I was living in the UK. I then removed it from wallet after returning to South Africa, thinking I would have no further use for it. But would like to add it back now. The card is active, fully functioning, and a check with my bank confirms they have not put any block of any sort on it. I continue to use it to make online purchases. However, Apple wallet now refuses to add it back on. The bank fraud prevention team suggested that this might be because I have changed countries, and there might be some internal checks in Apple Pay that prevent this. Is there any solution?

Both regions settings are set to South Africa? If so, it sounds like an issue on the banks side. I would try to contact a support team member on the Apple Pay team rather than fraud team.

Your iPhone transmits the data gathered off the card and select personal information stored on iPhone. The bank verifies the information and may use geographical information in making a decision to approve adding the card to Apple Wallet. Usually a second verification method such as text, email or phone is used as well.

If excessive attempts to verify are not successfully completed, the system may lock out future attempts for a period of time.

Does the bank have all your current information and does it match information on your iPhone?

The bank may be restricting the addition of the card to county of issue. Is there an error message when attempting to add the card?

Just as a pure guess, have you tried adding the card using a 4 digit year for the expiration date?

After a long conversation with their fraud department, they assure me that they have put no restrictions whatsoever on the card. The message I get is the standard "Card not added. Contact your card issuer for more information".

But that's precisely what I've done, and they tell me it's not them, it's Apple...
