The first thing to do is to restart in Safe Mode with the charging cable connected to the keyboard and the back of the iMac so the keyboard "thinks" it is a USB keyboard. Then disconnect. the cable and restart normally and test the keyboard. If that fails, then please do the following:
The following will require any USB keyboard and mouse. If you don’t have them, borrow or buy them, they are inexpensive!
1. Connect the USB keyboard and mouse to the computer.
2. Open System Preferences – Bluetooth
3. Un-pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.
4. Turn off Bluetooth
5. Restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
6. Restart the computer normally.
7. Open System Preferences – Bluetooth
8. Turn on Bluetooth
9. Re-Pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.
10. Unplug the USB keyboard and mouse and begin testing the wireless devices again.

The first thing to do is to go to system settings > keyboard > text input > edit > input sources and tell us what you have on the list. If you are normally typing English, use the minus button to get rid of everything except US or ABC or British.
If you are using an older MacOS version, the place is system preferences > keyboard > input sources
If still a problem, tell us exactly which keys are producing something other than what is printed on them.
