I doubt anyone will take the time to report this as it's tough to isolate but here it is:
Take 2 clips stacked above the storyline and perform an overwrite to primary. The resulting consolidated clips will have gaps at either endpoints. See attached video I've made demonstrating this.

Hey Tom -- It's a pretty complicated overwrite. I'm attaching a before & after scrnshot for you as well. You'll see that the storyline is 23.98p, and the 1st immediate layer above is 60p, and the layer above that is also 23.98p -- The project is set for 24p.
If you're on deadline while also trying to figure out why these gaps are being created, perhaps you can perform the overwrites, then search the timeline index for gap, select them all and delete.
thanks for trying -- try this as well: select both clips above the storyline; perform the overwrite. Make sure you have other clips to either side of these also....

What's the project frame rate? You demonstrated with a 23.98 clip. Where did that come from?
I can't tell at that timeline resolution, but you say it creates a gap. I see the next clip shift, which it obviously shouldn't do for an overwrite, but is it leaving a gap clip after the 23.98 overwrites, and now many frames is the gap?
I hear you - but it's actually a big deal as even the shortest clip is > 2Gb.... that's the limit for wetransfer (non-paid) ... I would have to export a shorter segment -- but then it will not have the effects applied (chromakey etc) and these may be a factor. But hey - i'm going to export just a short segment of 2 of these clips -- you can then reconstruct the timelien and see what happens with the 23.98 on top, the 60p middle, the 23.98 on storyline.
Thanks very much James. There probably is a bug in the overwriting mixed frame rates, perhaps in handling the 23.98 to 24.
Thanks Terryb -- yes indeed that's what I've done. There were hundreds of them and it did take considerable amount of time. As a dedicated FCPX user for many, many years though IU take the time to report these things as they come up to prompt apple in the only way I know to get serious about QA + software validation. We pay for the product and the hardware, but apple seems to focus their resources on other things.
Much as i would love to dig deep into this and try different scenarios I can't afford the time. I really wish apple would get serious about qa and dedicate some resources to repeating these reported issues to discover what's really a bug and what's not.

I lowered the center clip to the storyline, but there is no gap. Although it is impossible to reproduce the exact same editing effect, the results were fine. No frame shift is visible even when zoomed in.
