My daughter can not access her phone, there was an update and we must enter the passcode to enter the phone but the number buttons are not responding and there is a black and white outline around the buttons when trying to use them. Also, the sound is muffled, sped up and scrambled

And, as I said, hold the SIDE button and say “Turn off voiceover” if you have Siri enabled for the lock screen.
Somehow you turned on Voiceover, a feature for vision limited users who can’t see the screen well. It speaks whatever you touch on the screen so you know what you’ve touched. Touching the same spot a second time will activate it.

Double-tap each button. That’s an accessibility feature that somehow got turned on. Then go to Settings/Accessibility and turn off anything that is turned on.
You can also try holding the Side button and say “Turn off VoiceOver” but that will only work if you have Siri enabled on the Lock screen.
Thank you, but I’m struggling to put in the passcode. The numbers won’t punch in. I’ve double tapped everything on the screen & it just keeps reading off everything really fast
