Sidecar won't work on Mac OS Catalina

I am using a Macbook Air 2017 running mac OS Catalina and I am trying to use my ipad pro 2018 3rd generation as a second display. According to the website both devices meet the system requirements for Sidecar and I have followed all the instructions, the devices are connected both on Bluetooth and by Usb and on my Apple id but when I got to system preferences and display the ipad is not listed. I've been trying to fix this for two days now and would really appreciate some help!

A quick check of the Support document suggests that

Your iPad Pro, running iPadOS 15, satisfies the system requirements for Sidecar.
Your 2017 MacBook Air, running Catalina, does not. Catalina is new enough, but the machine itself is a year too old.

Hi that's very helpful thank you and my apologies as I did realise that eventually. I don't suppose you know of any other way I can mirror my mac to my ipad do you? I can mirror it to the tv with a thunderbolt connection (unfortunately I don't have the cable with me to try) but I could get one if you think that might work? I have also tried using Yam which does do it but only for a few minutes at a time which is a bit tedious. Many thanks.
