if i have access to family sharing, why i don’t i have access to apple music?

My friend started sharing his family plan with me so I can access Apple Music, but every time I log in it says my subscription expired from a previous time I had an individual plan. It shows that we both have access to music but every time I open it it says an error occurred and wants me to purchase a new plan

If you have recently cancelled your own subscription and the shared one is still in the free trial, you won't have access to it, until the free trial ends.

If one or both of the above are not true, then go to Settings ➜ Apple ID ➜ Media & Purchases and sign out of your Apple ID, and sign back in with your own. It should refresh the subscription status in that case.
