Scanning iMac

I have read that the iMac, like other Apple PC's, does not need antivirus software installed. Apple will deal with problems. I imagine this is for newer PC's . What would one do with an older model? Is it possible to scan (free) on line, please?

I have had warnings from AskYou regarding a virus. I believe this is a scam. Am I correct, please?

Definitely is a scam. Do not allow any scan of your computer as this will only install Malware which will continue to claim you have a problem and will say you need to purchase their software to fix it. Another common popup that you may get is a fake message saying your computer has a virus or is locked and will provide fake telephone numbers to call that claim to be Apple Technical Support. This is only an attempt for you to give them your Apple ID and Password, which allows them access to your online data, and can be used to disable your account.
