AirPods Pro first gen continuous problems - anyone else?
So I bought some first gen AirPods Pro back in 2020. I immediately had some trouble with them that escalated to the point I brought them in for service. It turned out there were known issues - they ran diagnostics on them and replaced ONE of the AirPods under warranty. I told them that didn’t match up with the trouble I was having. But they tech insisted that would solve it. So I gave it a try. Well sure enough, it didn’t solve the problem. So they replaced both AirPods - didn’t solve the problem either. They finally replaced the entire set. THAT fixed the problem. For a little while. When they did that I had the option to get AppleCare. I made a smart choice and did so. Because sure enough, they started having problems again! They replaced them under apple care and the problem was resolved for a little while. We’re into 2023 now. So 2.5 years later since I first started having problems with my brand new AirPods. Well sure enough I started having some odd problems again. It got bad to where I couldn’t keep them paired anymore so I tried going in to see if they could help. This brand new set was less than a year old BUT was replaced under apple care so it didn’t have a “real warranty”. Sure enough, they were defective again and I’m out of luck.
TLDR: did anyone else have lots of problems with their AirPods Pro first gen?
Here are some of the issues I had:
- Random disconnection of one AirPod while the other was still connected
- Random stopping of audio for no reason
- AirPods not in use stealing Bluetooth connection from other devices
- Case not showing up with battery level on iphone when lid is open
- Case randomly showing up on iPhone screen even though it’s not open or anywhere near the phone
- Case lights not functioning properly unless it’s plugged in
- Case button not working unless plugged in
- Airpods randomly disconnecting entirely while being used (I tried turning off ear detection and it didn’t help)
Im not even sure if that was all of them there have been so many spread out over 3 years. I tried multiple different iPhones and did full resets on the AirPods and even a full software reinstall on an iPhone. No luck and this was confirmed by the Apple techs at the store. I find it hard to believe I’m the only person that had these problems and I take good care of my AirPods. In a case, never dropped on hard surface, never wet, etc. I think there were manufacturing problems with them or I just have even worse luck than I thought!
and my piece of advice: TAKE YOUR AIRPODS IN FOR SERVICE ASAP WHEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM! And buy AppleCare when they replace them due to a warranty problem. Even better advice: buy something else. Their computers and phones have always been good to me but the AirPods are the worst.
