Older OS not compatible with new printer installation

2012 iMac with OS Catalina 10.15.7. Trying to install new hp printer which requires OS 11.0 or higher. Can my OS be updated? Or, have to buy new iMac?

Sorry, but no. Your Late 2012 iMac cannot be upgraded past 10.15.7.

However, you may still have an option, other than getting a newer Mac ... and that is considering getting a Virtual Machine (VM) manager, like Parallels, to run a VM of macOS 11. You would then run this VM, as an app, when you need to use this printer. Not very efficient, but may be doable.

Otherwise, with a 10+ year old Mac, it may be best to upgrade to a newer one than trying to "band-aid" this one.
