How to offset text path to create this effect on MacBook Air's Final Cut Pro?

How do I edit text like the image below? In Illustrator, I would do the following steps, so I'm wondering if FCP has something similar:

1) Type the text.

2) Create text outline.

3) Make a copy of outlined text.

4) Offset path of one set of text, set fill to white and stroke to black.

5) Create red stroke on other set of text.

6) Center align, with 4 as the bottom layer, 5 as the top layer.

You can add a Stroke effect:

https://fcpxtemplates.com/sdm_downloads/stroke-effect/

(this is a free download — Install as an effect)

It can be made to look like this:

I didn't have the same font so that character baselines are a little out of align.

The red outline is simply adding the Stroke effect once.

This is the default parameter set for Stroke:

Then add a SECOND Stroke effect and set the Stroke Type to Outline Gradient:

then set the gradient up to look like:

Select the first color swatch and set the Interpolation to Constant (as shown).

Set the Width to whatever you need.

If you don't need the white background in between the red and black, then you can simply create the second Stroke as Stroke Type: Color and adjust the Offset parameter to pull it away from the red outline.

This is a semi-common style done in Japanese YouTube videos

I completely understand how you feel. Many people like to use double or triple outline text. The FCP path (Bezier curve) is only in the mask function. There are few types of text designs.

I think the reason why YouTubers often introduce third-party products is because they are aware that there are few types of text. *Some people say it's faster to buy one if you don't have it.

・As Tom said, create the text in another application (Illustrator, etc.)

・Use a third-party product

・Make it yourself with effort

--

When I posted an example that imitated a commercial, I thought it would be easier to convert the text to Bezier curves. Countermeasure:Make the original video monochrome. →For the text part, I remember using Luma Keyer and blend mode to cut out the characters.

If you absolutely need an "Illustrator-like" effect you can use 3D Text. The "outlines" will be Bézier and not pixelated as with the stroke.

Start with your text and convert it to 3D Text in the Text Inspector.

In the Materials section, set it to "Multiple".

Set the Front to Generic and the Color to Black.

Select the Front Edge and set the Color to Red.

Go back to the top and set the Depth to 0, then dial down the Front Edge Size and increase the Width to about 6 and the Front Edge > Depth to 0.

Duplicate the Title and place the duplicate below the original.

Go to Material > Generic > Color and set it to white.

The Front Edge color should already be black — if not — set it to black.

Set the Front Edge size > Width to taste.

The only visual problem with this method is you are going to get an overlapping edge you see with the middle character overlapping the first character. This can actually be removed if you go to Material > Generic > Brightness (white color) and dial it up to about 300%... but that might affect the "safe levels" if your concerned about "color correction".

The downside of this method is that it requires duplicating a title and creating two different outline effects as opposed to the Stroke effects that can be added multiple times to one title and everything you added to the one title can be saved for future use as a single "effect" (preset).

Is it the part where the orange edge disappears?

Since I had little experience with 3D text, it took me about 30 minutes to understand the meaning of each parameter. It seems that the overlapping of edges can be resolved with some adjustment.

Where is the dial?

"Brightness" may be labelled differently based on locale, but it's location should be here:

This is the result of this particular setting:

The value can be click-dragged to almost any value beyond 100%. 0% is always black (when Substance is Generic) regardless of Color. The Substance parameter sets change depending on the dropdown option selected. The "Basic" (default) Substance is Plastic and the parameters are Type, Color Type, and Color. Generic shows Surface, Color, Brightness and Opacity. Sorry I wasn't clear enough about the Substance.
