I have a book, designed in Indesign and exported to a pdf.file, that I want to convert to epub format. But I can not find any information how that's done. Does anyone know if this is possible?

You'll probably get the best results if you re-export the document from InDesign directly to an ePub.
There are lots of websites that purport to do such a conversion. Some of them charge a fee. Some of them may be dubious in other ways.
