Apple's Pages is not responding

Have open doc that worked okay yesterday. I can't make it come to life... it's "dead"... I can't even quit Pages.

Issue with Pages and Numbers I am using a MacBook Air, M1 and on Mac OS 11.2.3. I updated both Pages and Numbers as soon as I was prompted to update a couple of weeks ago. Now I am unable to open documents saved in Pages and Numbers. Instead the doc opens to "Pages quit unexpectedly". I contacted Tech Support and chatted with an advisor who advised me to replicate the issue on Safe Mode. Sad to say, the same issue exists on Safe Mode as well. Tried checking online and realized that same issue has been reported by many different Mac users dating back to six years prior. I tried checking Apple Community discussions and could not find any definite troubleshooting procedure to resolve this issue. I really hope that Apple is able to look into this apparently known issue. It does not make sense to simply use a third party comparable app for this requirement.

Pages 12 on Mac hangs, now unusable Pages 12 is unusable for me. If I open my previous files, and try to copy/edit the text, I get the spinning wheel. Only option is force quit. Anyone else have this problem? Doesn't matter if I created the file last week or last year, ALL of my Pages files are now unavailable/inaccessible to me. Switching to MS Word to meet my report deadlines... MB Pro (2018), 256G SSD, 16G RAM

Pages App constantly quits unexpectedly and I lose all of my work January 17, 2023 I use Pages App version 12.2.1 (7035.0.161) on a MacBook Pro, 16”, 2019 with a 2.6-core Intel Core i7, and I have 16GB of memory. I am running macOS Ventura 13.1. I am trying to write an auto-biography and Pages quits unexpectedly. A message appears that says, “Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent automatically to Apple”. I can’t begin to read or understand what the report is saying or why Pages quit. This is all well and good, but every time I reopen, all my work is gone, with nothing saved and it is costing me too much time to continue using Pages the way it is. I finally decided to take screenshots of the error messages and have those on my computer in a file I call Screenshots. In just the last couple of days, I have 16 different “screenshots” showing Pages quitting unexpectedly about every 10 minutes. I am looking for anything that might be causing the problem and I have tried the following: Shut down my computer and restarted. Deleted my Pages App and reinstalled a new copy. All that I can think of left to do now is: Is the problem my computer? Is the problem in the Pages App? I opened up a Pages Template called “Personal Novel” under NEW and started typing my book. Could this Template be causing the problems? It hasn’t quit unexpectedly on me one time since typing this report. THE MORE I TYPE, THE MORE I THINK THE TEMPLATE MAY BE THE PROBLEM. Apply the Sonoma 14.2.1 update if you have not already. Probably nothing to do with Pages, but always important to stay current with the operating system updates.

I use Pages v13.2 on macOS 14.2.1 and the application exhibits no misbehavior of any kind with locally stored documents.

You can quit Pages by forcing it to quit. Press the option key and right-click on the Pages icon in the Dock. Select Force Quit. Reboot your Mac. Are you using Pages v13.2 — which is expected for Sonoma 14.2.1.

Now, press and hold the shift-key while launching Pages. That will tell it to ignore loading its last execution state, and should open normally. From the File menu, use open File and select that same document that you were working on. Does it open normally, or is there a dialog present that I should know about?

Thank you for answering. I couldn't even use Force Quit... Pages still didn't come alive. I had to restart the whole Mac, and Pages is now okay.

I'm in Pages 13.2, and Sonoma 14.2.
