Does anyone else have an issue how HomeKit chooses the home hub that is connected

It seems Apple home auto decides which device is connected to be the home hub and their choice is often the worse device and I have to unplug devices until it is once again on my home mini pod instead of one of the tvs downstairs. Apple should allow to set a default hub or choose one manually

HomePod mini, 17

You are correct, the Hubs charge roles (between being either the connected device or on standby) depending on their perceived strength of the Wi-Fi signal they receive. There is a degree of futility in changing these devices around because at some point they will change again to a device not of your preference.

How do you notice a degradation of connectivity when a different hub has been selected as the connected device?

If you have a preferred device about the only thing you could do to influence this is to improve the wireless signal in the part of your network in which your preferred hub resides. This will give it every chance to be the connected hub.
