Avoid upgrading MBP from Monterey 12.7 to Sonoma

I have a MBP 16" 2019 model with an Intel CPU and do not want to have it upgraded to Sonoma or any higher OS than Monterey because I have programs which won't work on Sonoma and there are no replacements which would work on Sonoma. Yet I would like to keep upgrading Monterey to whatever the latest update, I think it is now 12.7.2, but can not as it would automatically download and upgrade to Sonoma. Is there a way around it?

I believe that if you keep automatic upgrades turned off, you can still check Software Update every once in a while, and download the latest "point release" update (if a new one is available).

I did that with Ventura. As I recall, I had to scroll past a huge amount of text trying to get me to upgrade to Sonoma, and maybe had to click on a "More' link at the bottom before the Ventura update button appeared. But it appeared. I suspect it will work the same way with Monterey.
