can the swipe right in email be back?

When reading emails, it was great to be able to click an email, read it, and then swipe right and go back to the email list. Or swipe right again to see all of my email addresses. That function no longer seems to works. It makes it much more difficult to read mail with one hand… I have a 14 pro max and when I need to click the top of the screen, I need to either use my other hand, or crawl my phone downward with my fingers such that I can select the back button. Help! Is there any way to make the swipe right go back?
