OS Catalina 10.15.7 is the last SW update but I need OS11 and a new web browser, how do I make it happen?

<The SW Update function says my Mac is up to date, but it is only OS Catalina 10.15.7

When I try to open some websites I can view them as my Safari web browser is not new enough.

I can't download Google or chrome or other web browser either as it doesn't come up a s an option when I check and search App Store. I need a newer and better OS, is what I believe.

Earlier Mac models

If you are having trouble connecting to and using websites with your older version of Safari, try it with a newer third party browser that is still being updated to meet current internet security protocols.

I suggest you take a look at Firefox browser or Brave browser.

Download an alternative browser and install it into your Applications folder. Launch and use that when you encounter websites that don't play well with Safari.

The macOS version you can upgrade to depends on the year your Mac was released.

Click the Apple menu () at the top of your screen and choose About This Mac.

Check the compatibility of your Mac hardware with newer versions of macOS software:

➡️ macOS 11 Big Sur is compatible with the Macs listed here

➡️ macOS 12 Monterey is compatible with the Macs listed here

➡️ macOS 13 Ventura is compatible with the Macs listed here

Your iMac 13,2 identifies as a 27-inch, Late 2012 model.

Here is an example of what you would be looking for when you click About This Mac. This is from my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012):

Here is a list of Macs compatible with macOS Catalina.

➡️ macOS 10.15 Catalina is compatible with the Macs listed here

You can view the compatible Macs for other systems in the links I posted earlier.

You will find your iMac (27-inch, Mid 2012) is not listed as compatible with macOS versions newer than Catalina. There is no further upgrade path for that twelve year old iMac which is now considered obsolete.

The best you can do to access those websites that are giving you trouble in the safari browser is to download a different browser and use that as needed.
