Removing device from my iCloud account

I am no longer using an old iPhone and an old iPad. Both are turned off and sitting in a closet in my home. Although I still have them, I will not be using them anymore. I would like to remove them from my iCloud account, as well as the list of my devices on my iCloud account. How do I do this?

iPad, iOS 9

The bets way to do this, is to turn them on, turn off find my, log out of your iCloud account and erase them directly on the device itself.

If you cannot do the above for some reason, then you can remove them from the account directly at iCloud.com.

click here ➜ Remove a device from Find Devices on iCloud.com - Apple Support

But they will not be erased until they are turned on.
