project clip now says “missing plugin” but the plugin is not identified

I have been having the same issue. The way I manage to make it work is really out of this world. Step 1. locate the actual footage on the hard rive through import and it import once you come back to the b-roll section (NOTHING SHOULD HAPPEN) then step 2 delete the file in the B-roll section (EXTREMLY IMPORTANT) STEP 3 delete the matching file in the timeline you should get a grey window pop up hit ok. step 3 hit undo twice (1 to bring back the timeline file and 1 to bring back the b-roll and then it should pop up. Don't ask me why but that is the only way I have manage to make it work, its ridiculous but it works.

Perhaps you have Autoupdate enabled and something was upgraded this week.

What camera shot this media? What are the exact specs of the footage? Open a clip in QT Player and post a screenshot of the Get Info window. It will look something like this:

I actually see this often in FCPX. What works sometimes for me, delete render files. Maybe delete the pref files, too. That often clears it up. Or also copy it all from that original timeline and paste it into a new one. I've seen that work.

Does this affected clip play in Quicktime Player?

Running FCP 10.7.1

Are the plugin versions and FCP versions compatible? Older plugins cannot be used unless they are compatible with FCP10.7.1

Please try the plugin in a new project. Does it work?

It might be a playback plugin for your media which wouldn’t appear in the inspector.

Makes no sense and I don't know how to fix it.

Does the location where your media and library are stored have enough space?

Normally playback plugins for cameras like RED and some Canon cameras are installed in the system and come with uninstallers.
