project clip now says “missing plugin” but the plugin is not identified

Opened a project I've been working on and suddenly all the edits using a particular clip say "missing plugin" -- except that the inspector does not identify any plugins on the clip at all! The clip in the browser also shows "missing plugin" but when the original media is revealed in finder it plays there fine. 1. What's the issue here? 2. Is there a way to replace all the edits in the project with the original media without having to re-edit everything? Running FCP 10.7.1 Thanks!

THAT WORKED! YOU'RE A GENIUS! YOU JUST SAVED ME 10 HOURS OF WORK!

--FYI, this is in response to BenB's reply: "I actually see this often in FCPX. What works sometimes for me, delete render files. Maybe delete the pref files, too. That often clears it up. Or also copy it all from that original timeline and paste it into a new one. I've seen that work."

BRAVO!

I have been having the same issue. The way I manage to make it work is really out of this world. Step 1. locate the actual footage on the hard rive through import and it import once you come back to the b-roll section (NOTHING SHOULD HAPPEN) then step 2 delete the file in the B-roll section (EXTREMLY IMPORTANT) STEP 3 delete the matching file in the timeline you should get a grey window pop up hit ok. step 3 hit undo twice (1 to bring back the timeline file and 1 to bring back the b-roll and then it should pop up. Don't ask me why but that is the only way I have manage to make it work, its ridiculous but it works.
