Office 365 is a monthly subscription and is web based. The advantage of Office 365 is you ALWAYS have the latest version and when you don't want to use MS Office you don't pay the subscription fee. The disadvantage is you have to pay a monthly subscription to MS which some object to.

Stand alone MS Office is the old traditional method of distributing software, where you buy the app and use it on the amount of machines it is licensed for. The advantage of this is it may be less expensive than paying a subscription amount. The disadvantage is there is no upgrading to a later version as MS releases new releases.

I would recommend that you contact the developers of the software, Microsoft.

The main Microsoft 365 applications run on Macs and Windows PCs.

You can "Use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more for free on the web" – although I'm sure that Microsoft hopes that anyone who is more than a very casual user will take out one of the Microsoft 365 plans. If the "free" Web browser based versions started looking "too good" compared to the Windows/Macintosh ones, I suspect you'd see Microsoft charging for the Web browser versions very quickly …
