Apple mini gives off warnings about "running out of application memory"

If I have more than a couple of applications open on my mac mini (today it was Chrome, Mail and a game) then I get a message that I have run out of application memory and need to close some applications. It's a new mac mini running Ventura 13.6.3 . I am really disappointed. I have only had the machine for a month or so and feel I have been sold a complete dud because a new machine should be able to cope with a few open windows. My ancient work pc can cope with more than my new mac which makes me worried about purchasing any future apps. Can anybody help me as to why I am getting this message and what I can do about it. I would really appreciate it. Thanks all.

Exactly which model Mac mini did you get for Christmas?

How much RAM does this Mac mini have built in?

Click Apple menu () > About This Mac to find that info.

The base model mini is configured with only 8GB RAM. This is barely enough to run computer's macOS and a few low demand apps. If this is your mini, then you're stuck because the RAM allotment cannot be increase after purchase due to the way it is built into the hardware; soldered on.

Veteran users here in the communities will typically advise buying nothing less than 16GB RAM in the modern Mac computer for this reason.

Chrome is a known resource hog. Keep your open windows and tabs to a minimum when using it if your Mac has a short amount of RAM.

I've seen that advisory when the system or an app thinks it is running our of drive space. How big is your storage and how much is free, from "About this Mac..." > Storage tab:

A game can be quite demanding. A real full fledged PC game does not act the same as a mobile game you use on your iPhone or iPad. In fact, a full fledged PC type game usually requires all other apps to be closed to run properly.

What is the game and what are the system requirements for that game? Apple computers are not really known for gaming systems.
