USB needs power, connect “App’e USB” to a USB port on this Mac
My Apple disk use to power up when I connected it to the USB hub plugged into my Macbook Air but isn’t being provided the power now.
iMac, OS X 10.11

Is this "App'e USB" by any chance an Apple USB SuperDrive (CD/DVD drive)?
That drive has a reputation for being picky about power. Your best chances of success with it are to plug it directly into one of your Mac's USB ports (either a USB-A port, or a USB-C port via an Apple USB-C to USB adapter).

Ronasara, thank you for your comments and suggestions… I finally figured it out. I have three adapters, two are combination adapters and one is just a single USB adapter. The combination adapters were not providing enough power for the Apple USB Super Drive, but when I plugged it into the USB only adapter the drive worked without any issues. So, thank you and I learned something about the combination adapters that they may not provide the same level of power as a dedicated USB adapter. Cheers!
Many products, including external disks and printers, etc. must either be directly plugged into the computer or connected via an externally powered hub. Does your hub have its own power? If so, you need to confirm that the power is working.
That says that the problem is associated with that one disk. I would again plug i directly into the computer to verify that it works there. If so, I would then ply it into the bridge but swap ports with something else that is now working on that port. This would confirm that the port used on the bridge is not the problem. Last, how old is the disk? Maybe it is failing. You should run Disk Utility to test the disk. If it reports a problem, sometimes D.U. must be rerun several times to get an ok final answer. If the disk was originally formatted using a maintenance app provided by its vendor, that often causes odd problems which clear up after being reformatted with Apple's Disk Utility.
Yes, the hub is working and I can connect my backup disk drive or printer and they work without any problems. Is there a setting that needs to be changed to tell the computer to supply power to the external disk drive.
Thank you, Mitch. I too just learned something from you - that adapters can have that effect. I would have assumed that they would be neutral. We learn from each other here. Well done.
