If you're encountering the "USB accessory needs power" message when connecting an Apple USB SuperDrive to your Mac using a Lention USB/USB-C adapter, it suggests that the adapter might not be providing enough power to the SuperDrive. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Ensure that the Lention USB/USB-C adapter you are using supports the power requirements of the Apple USB SuperDrive. Some adapters might not deliver enough power to certain USB accessories.

2. Try connecting the Apple USB SuperDrive directly to your Mac without using the Lention adapter. If it works fine when connected directly, it confirms that the issue lies with the adapter.

3. If the adapter is not providing sufficient power, you can try using a different adapter or a different USB port on your Mac. Make sure to use an adapter or port that can supply enough power to the SuperDrive.

4. Check for any firmware or driver updates for your Lention adapter. Sometimes, updating the adapter's firmware or drivers can resolve compatibility issues.

5. If possible, try using a different USB SuperDrive or a different USB accessory to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem is specific to the SuperDrive or the adapter.

6. Contact Lention's customer support or refer to their documentation to see if there are any specific instructions or known issues related to using the Apple USB SuperDrive with their adapter.

+1 to Horlarbordeyjohn;s Point 2.

There are numerous posts here saying the USB SuperDrive works best when you use one of the three adaptors listed in this Apple article:

How to connect the Apple USB SuperDrive - Apple Support

Some have posted it ONLY works with Apple adaptors. Many third-party adapters are reported as failing to work with the SuperDrive.

The SuperDrive has not been updated since the summer of 2012 and appears to be struggling with power issues on newer Macs.
